Through Carolinas Physicians Network, Carolinas HealthCare System provides personal obstetricians and gynecologists close to where you work and live.

Charlotte Obstetric & Gynecologic Associates
Charlotte Obstetric and Gynecologic Associates has provided obstetric, gynecologic, infertility and surgical care for women in Charlotte since 1952. It offers physicians, certified nurse-midwives and family nurse practitioners in three Charlotte-area locations - the Arboretum, Huntersville and Charlotte. Charlotte Obstetric and Gynecologic Associates' physicians are on staff at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

CMC NorthPark
CMC NorthPark was opened by Carolinas HealthCare System in 1997 as a community health center serving eastern Charlotte neighborhoods. The practice offers physicians and other staff who provide a variety of services, including obstetrics and gynecology.

Eastover OB/GYN
Eastover OB/GYN has a tradition of caring for the healthcare needs of women in the Charlotte region. It offers a staff of 10 physicians and one nurse practitioner who are available in three area locations - Arboretum, Union West and at the main office near Carolinas Medical Center, where maternity services are provided.

Eastover - University OB/GYN
Eastover - University OB/GYN has a staff of six physicians who are available in one location University Medical Park. Future location Prosperity Church Road, opening Summer 2006. The physicians provide maternity services at Carolinas Medical Center-University.

NorthCross OB/GYN
NorthCross OB/GYN offers comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care to the North Carolina communities of Huntersville, Mooresville, Davidson, the University area and the surrounding region. Future location, Mountain Island Lake - opening Summer 2006. It has two board-certified physicians on staff. It offers maternity services at Carolinas Medical Center.

Ormand Center for Women
In Monroe, N.C., Ormand Center for Women has six physicians on staff who provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care to women of all ages at two locations - Monroe and Union West. Ormand Center for Women offers maternity, diagnostic and surgical care across the street at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

Piedmont GYN/OB and Pineville GYN/OB
Piedmont GYN/OB and Pineville GYN/OB are practices of physicians and certified nurse midwives who have offices in Pineville, N.C., and Rock Hill, S.C. They provide maternity care at several locations, including the Mercy Maternity Center at Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville. Relocating Pineville office to Ballentyne January 2006.

The Women's Institute
The Women's Institute is located at Carolinas Medical Center. Its physicians and staff specialize in the diagnosis and management of women's medical and reproductive conditions, as well as other health concerns.

Checkups for women

Blood pressure - Annually

Cholesterol - Every 5 years beginning at age 19

Clinical breast exam - Annually beginning at age 19. Women are encouraged to perform monthly self breast exams.

Fecal occult blood test - Annually starting at age 40

Mammography - Every 1 to 2 years for women age 40 to 50 and annually for women over 50 years of age

Pap test - All women who are or have been sexually active or who have reached age 18 should have an annual Pap test and pelvic examination. After a woman has had three or more consecutive, satisfactory annual exams with normal findings, the Pap test may be performed less frequently in a low-risk woman at the discretion of her physician. More frequent Pap tests may be required for a woman with high-risk factors (including multiple sex partnes, STDs, alcohol or drug abuse, history of cervical, vaginal or vulvar cancer).

Pelvic exam - annually when sexually active or by age 18

Sigmoidoscopy - Every three to five years after age 50

Urinalysis - Annually after age 65
To help prevent urinary tract infections:

Drink at least 8 glasses of liquid a day.

Take 500mg of vitamin C daily to make urine more acidic and reduce the amount of bacteria that can grow in it. Drinking cranberry juice also is recommended for this purpose.

Keep your genital area as clean and dry as possible.

Wipe from front to back after urinating.

Wear cotton underwear.

Avoid resisting the urge to urinate; empty your bladder completely and often.

Urinate before and after sexual intercourse.

Avoid the use of bubble bath, perfumed soap and feminine hygiene sprays.
