WOMEN'S SERVICES
Throughout their lives, women face many unique health issues. Some are a routine part of aging.
Others are urgent medical or obstetric problems. But all of them pose challenges for patients and
their physicians. Helping meet those challenges are the following Carolinas HealthCare System services.
Routine Care And Prevention
Primary and preventive care are key elements in helping women maintain healthy and active lifestyles. Routine assessments performed annually or as needed help in early detection and intervention of health problems. Periodic visits also provide an opportunity for providers to educate and counsel patients about preventive care and health maintenance. Recommendations for screening and preventive services vary depending on age and other risk factors. Obstetric and gynecologic practices within Carolinas Physicians Network can provide you with the information and care you need at a location close to your home or work.
Maternity
Carolinas HealthCare has a variety of maternity centers, each offering the perfect setting to welcome a new baby into the world. In addition, our physician practices offers prenatal obstetric care at convenient locations.
Midwifery
Nurse-midwives provide care and information throughout pregnancy, supervise labor and delivery, and care for both mother and baby immediately after birth. They also provide Well-woman care such as annual Pap smears and pelvic exams.
Lactation Services
The popularity of breastfeeding has been gaining through the last few decades, and it's no wonder, considering all of the benefits of this natural food source.
Midlife Services
It is estimated that 55 million American women are now over the age of 50. The average woman will spend one-third to one-half of her life in menopause. The Mid-Life Health Program at Carolinas Medical Center provides up-to-date information and consultation for the peri-menopausal and menopausal patient.
Urology/Continence Services
Because hormone levels and muscle tone change with age, stress incontinence (leakage of urine while coughing, laughing or during exercise or lifting) can become a problem for many people in middle age. Carolinas HealthCare's professionals use urogynecologic tests to pinpoint the cause of the problem and develop solutions, most frequently nonsurgical.
Reproductive/Endocrinology Services
Hormones regulate the body's rate of metabolism, growth and sexual development and functioning. Carolinas HealthCare offers many healthcare professionals who specialize in hormonal disorders. Services include consultation, diagnosis and management for expectant mothers whose pregnancies are or may be high risk. We also provide reproductive endocrinology and infertility services for couples.
Gynecologic Oncology Services
The fight against cancer is fought one day, rather than one way, at a time. This distinction underscores the unique value of the multidisciplinary approach used by Carolinas HealthCare healthcare professionals in the fight against cancer.
Senior Care
As women age, their healthcare needs change. To help coordinate senior care, Carolinas HealthCare System has created Senior Health Connection. This Charlotte-based, our physician practices are dedicated to preventive care, the diagnosis and treatment of dementia, as well as the management of chronic diseases. We use a team approach to coordinate care as patients and their caregivers move through changes in the body, mind and spirit.
