ABOUT F.H. "SAMMY" ROSS JR.
F.H. "Sammy" Ross Jr.
1916-1999
For over 30 years, Sammy Ross established an extraordinary record of service at Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS). Mr. Ross initially served CHS as a member of the
Board of the Carolinas Rehabilitation in the early 1960s. He joined the Board of CHS in 1964 and served for 22 years, retiring in 1986. Upon his retirement
from the Board of Commissioners, Mr. Ross continued his service to CHS as a member of the Board of the Health Services Foundation from 1986-1998.
Throughout his years of service, the Board and staff CHS and the Health Services Foundation greatly benefited from Mr. Ross' business acumen, unfailing good spirit and steadfast commitment. Indicative of that spirit and commitment was his unwavering attendance at and active participation in board and committee meetings.
Adding to this wonderful legacy of service and commitment, Mr. Ross made provision in his estate for a generous bequest to Carolinas HealthCare Foundation. Some months after his death, Mr. Ross' wife Margaret, and their daughter, Margo, committed additional philanthropic support to Carolinas Medical Center in memory of Mr. Ross. In appreciation of their generosity and in acknowledgement of the outstanding record of service of F.H. "Sammy" Ross Jr., the CHS Board of Trustees approved the naming of the F.H. "Sammy" Ross, Jr. Center at Carolinas Medical Center in 2001.
