Carolinas Laparoscopic and Advanced Surgery Program
Carolinas Laparoscopic and Advanced Surgery Program (CLASP) at Carolinas Medical
Center in Charlotte, NC., offers minimally invasive surgery to improve the
outcome of patients with disorders of the intestine, spine, solid organs heart
and others. It combines talented medical personnel and state-of-the-art minimally
invasive techniques and technologies of essentially all surgical disciplines under

Adult Spasticity Clinic - The goals of
the Adult Spasticity Clinic are to improve mobility, increase independence,
reduce pain and frequency of spasm, improve range of motion, and postpone or
avoid need for surgical intervention. Treatment options for patients include
EMG biofeedback, nerve/motor point blocks, medications, exercises, surgical
procedures, and implantable drug delivery systems.

Pediatric Neurological and Neurosurgery Program - This
program treats unique disorders of the brain and spinal cord of children. The
Pediatric Spasticity Clinic which offers surgical and nonsurgical interventions
to support a child's continued growth and development. The Rhizotomy Program,
a highly specialized surgical procedure designed to reduce spasticity in the
lower extremities and to allow greater freedom of movement for the child. |

The Cerebrovascular Disease Program - This
program diagnoses and treats acute stroke and vascular diseases of the brain and
spinal cord. Patients are evaluated to determine whether their symptoms are due to
a limitation or interruption of blood flow to the brain. Surgical procedures are
performed in dedicated neurosurgery operating rooms equipped with the latest
microsurgical instrumentation. Neurophysiological monitoring is available at all
times to provide precise evaluation of brain and spinal cord function during surgery.
Advanced procedures are available including endovascular treatment of aneurysms,
arteriovenous malformations and carotid occlusive disease. |

The Brain Tumor Program - The Brain
Tumor Program is a coordinated effort between one of the largest healthcare
systems in the Southeast and the largest neurosurgery practice in the region.
Carolinas HealthCare System and Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates
provide comprehensive medical care for adult and pediatric patients with
primary benign tumors, malignant tumors or brain metastasis from another part
of the body. We are located within Carolinas Medical Center, the only hospital
in this region to offer stereotactic radiosurgery. This innovative technology
allows our stereotactic team to treat localized lesions previously considered
inoperable. Through the use of CT scans, angiography, MRI, specialized
radiation delivery systems, and three-dimensional computer modeling, areas
of abnormal tissue can be precisely mapped and treated by finely defined
radiation beams. |

Carolinas Epilepsy Center - This
center has the most comprehensive, on-site services for diagnosing and
treating epilepsy in the region. Our on-site specialty procedures include
MRI, PET, SPECT and CT scans; WADA testing; intracranial electrode
monitoring; brain mapping; and frameless and frame-based stereotactic
surgical techniques. |

The Transplant Center at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C., is one of the
261 transplant centers in the United States. We offer kidney, heart, liver,
kidney/pancreas and pancreas-after-kidney transplant programs.
Carolinas Hernia Center at CMC
The physicians and staff of Carolinas Hernia Center are nationally and internationally recognized
experts in innovative hernia surgery and research in bioprosthetics. Our physicians have trained
more than 500 surgeons from more than 30 states and nine countries in the methods to approach and
perform both simple and extremely complex hernia procedures.
Physicians from all over the Southeast refer their patients to Carolinas Hernia Center for
the most advanced care. We have three fellowship- trained minimally invasive surgeons with a special
interest in hernia repair and biomaterials as well as a dedicated plastic surgeon with 20 years
