STROKE PROGRAM AND CVA REHABILITATION
Each year, more than 600,000 people in the United State suffer from a stroke,
or cerebrovascular accident (CVA).
Many cerebrovascular patients have cognitive (thinking) and physical challenges,
which require re-learning skills which were automatic before their cerebrovascular accident.
At Carolinas Rehabilitation, an experienced team of healthcare
professionals coordinates individualized treatment programs for each patient.
The comprehensive, interdisciplinary programs include:
- Speech therapy
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Psychology
- Clinical Social worker
- Registered nurse
- Clinical care coordinator/ RN
Professionals address the physical, functional and emotional needs of stroke
survivors and their families. Recovery can be long term and requires
patient/family involvement in goal setting and goal achievement.
A plan is created to meet the patient's specific needs and
goals of the individual and family/caregiver. Families attend the patient's treatment sessions
for instruction and education in patient care. Patient and families may also attend a stroke education class.
