COGNITIVE EDUCATION

Cognitive Education Services are available for pediatric patients and young adults on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. The Carolinas Rehabilitation Cognitive Education Specialist is licensed in special education by the State Board of Education and provides the following services:

• Academic testing for certification and school placement
• Educational cognitive retraining incorporating compensatory learning strategies for attention, memory, organization, and problem solving
• Transitioning inpatients from the rehab hospital to school
• Consultation and collaboration with parents regarding school placement
• School consultation and education of school personnel

Students who could benefit from Cognitive Education Services include those preparing for pre-school to those enrolled in college. These students typically have experienced traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, or similar medical events.
