DIGITAL IMAGING NETWORK

Carolinas HealthCare System has developed the most extensive digital communication system in the region for imaging procedures. The computer age has brought about a tremendous improvement in our ability to manage all of your radiology images. The outdated method of recording images in a "hard copy" format such as X-ray film has now been replaced by computer systems that can store thousands of images for many years.

The advantages of the Digital Imaging Network:

• Images are recorded in your personal image folder no matter what Carolinas HealthCare System facility performs your procedure. The network extends over all facilities within Mecklenburg County.
• Your physician is provided with a secure password and can conveniently review your images on a computer in your physician's office or any hospital unit.
• The computer network also extends to the Emergency Room and the Operating Rooms. If you have an emergency event or require surgery, all of your images are immediately available on computers in these locations.
• Radiologists can review your scans from any location in Carolinas HealthCare System, which means a specialist at another facility can be contacted to assist in your diagnosis. Your physician can also look at the images in his/her office while the radiologist provides details of the exam by telephone.
• We also provide copies of exams via computer disc as needed so images can be reviewed at other healthcare facilities.
