Addressing the whole person, mind, body, and spirit is a mission of the Blumenthal Cancer Center throughout the journey with cancer. As part of this service and mission, we offer our patients counseling, support groups and educational programs that include the following:

GROUPS AND PROGRAMS

  • Living With Cancer Support Group - A weekly support group open to any person with a diagnosis of cancer. Friends and family are invited.
    • Meets: Every Tuesday, 6:30 - 8 p.m.
    • Location: Carolinas Medical Center, Blumenthal Cancer Center
  • Chaplain Chat - Support group for family members who have a loved one in the hospital.
    • Meets: Thursdays, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
    • Location: Carolinas Medical Center, Inpatient Care Unit, 4 Tower

  • Melanoma Support Group - For those with melanoma, their family and friends.
    • Meets: the FIRST and THIRD Thursdays of each month, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
    • Location: Carolinas Medical Center, Blumenthal Cancer Center
  • Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Support Group - Open to any person with diagnosis of oral, head and neck (ENT) cancer. Friends and family are invited.
    • Meets: the SECOND and FOURTH Thursdays of each month, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
    • Location: Carolinas Medical Center, Blumenthal Cancer Center
  • Look Good... Feel Better Program - Open to any woman undergoing chemotherapy. Using make-up, wigs, and scarves, trained cosmetologists help women adjust to the side effects of treatment such as hair loss and skin complexion. This program is provided in conjunction with American Cancer Society. You must call to reserve a space. Please call Meg Turner at 704.355.7283 for dates.
  • Quest Cancer Wellness Program - A comprehensive wellness program to assist in recovery of cancer through exercise, education, nutrition, and relaxation techniques. Please visit Quest Cancer webpage for more information.
  • Carolina Breast Friends - Breast Friends mission is to create a positive environment for women with breast cancer providing education, encouragement, and friendship.
    • Meets: Second Tuesday of each month; 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

  • Rainbow of Hope Support Group - A support group for parents of pediatric patients.
  • Camp Care - A summer camp and year-round program for pediatric oncology patients.

    NEWSLETTER
    The System of Support is a quarterly newsletter that is published with you in mind. It not only provides you with information on counseling, groups and programs, but it also provides articles by cancer survivors who share their hopes, their challenges, and their strength. Also the newsletter offers topics on such topics as nutrition, spirituality, coping strategies and survivorship.

Carolinas Integrative Health offers a Yoga for Cancer Survivors class. It concentrates on helping the mind-body renew and restore itself. Special attention will be given to yoga postures and techniques that enhance the body's natural healing ability, address muscle imbalances, and encourage empowerment of the spirit. Relaxation and stress reduction techniques are also included.
