Anson Community Hospital
In Wadesboro, N.C., the Anson Community Hospital Auxiliary/Volunteer Services Department has the following adult volunteer opportunities available:

  • Offer acute-care patients beverages
  • Staff beverage and snack carts at the Lillie Bennett Nursing Home
  • Staff reception desks
  • Complete basic clerical tasks
  • Help with Emergency Department/Outpatient registration

Roper St. Francis Healthcare
Roper St. Francis Healthcare volunteers work as a team to help patients, nurses, doctors and other staff members with their day-to-day activities. More than 350 active volunteers offer a range of services including delivering magazines, knitting baby items, assisting with clerical work and patient care, wheelchair transportation, serving as receptionists and working in the gift shops. This volunteer work force serves an average of 8,000 hours a month improving patient care at the following locations:

Carolinas Medical Center
The Carolinas Medical Center Volunteer Services Department in Charlotte, N.C., has more than 100 service areas where you can volunteer. Below is a partial listing of our volunteer opportunities:

Adult volunteer opportunities include:

  • Greet patients, family and visitors. Assist in transporting and discharging patients
  • Provide information about services and resources to patients
  • Provide assistance in nursing units, Emergency Department and Childlife
  • Help with clerical duties, running errands, and answering telephones
  • Serve customers, sell merchandise, check prices and price new merchandise in the Gift Shop
  • Deliver flowers and magazines to patients
  • Staff waiting rooms
  • Become a bilinguel Volunteer

Junior volunteer opportunities include:

  • assist Guest Services in escorting visitors and families
  • Deliver flowers and magazines
  • Run errands for nursing and other departments
  • Provide assistance to nursing units
  • Assist in discharging patients/transporting
  • Assist in the Gift Shop

Carolinas Rehabilitation
Carolinas Rehabilitation is located on the Carolinas Medical Center campus in Charlotte, N.C. We need adult volunteers to help:

  • Staff the Gift Cart
  • Provide clerical
  • Assist in patient care areas

Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program at
Carolinas Rehabilitation
We depend on volunteers to help with our programs. Current opportunities include Winner on Wheels leader and pit crew positions, water skiing volunteers (jumpers, drivers, registration, cooks, etc.), and camp counselors. For more information, call 704-355-1064.

Cleveland Regional Medical Center
In Shelby, N.C., the Cleveland Regional Medical Center's Volunteer and Patient/Family Support Services has a variety of adult volunteer opportunities available:

  • Deliver flowers, newspapers and mail to patient rooms
  • Staff reception desks throughout the facility
  • Escort patients
  • Serve customers, sell merchandise, check prices and price new merchandise in the Gift Shop
  • Provide clerical support at the Cancer Center, the Recovery
  • Room and Education Community Program

Teen volunteer opportunities include:

  • Helping with a variety of responsibilities in Nutrition Services, Nursing Floors, Rehab Services, Information Services and the Education Department

Friends in Service for Carolinas HealthCare System
Friends is a service organization of Carolinas HealthCare Foundation. We support Carolinas HealthCare in improving the health and welfare of the people Carolinas HealthCare serves by contributing volunteer resources, community outreach services and philanthropic efforts.

The following facilities have Friends chapters:

  • Friends for Carolinas Medical Center
  • Friends for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease)
  • Friends for Huntersville Oaks
  • Friends for Children's Miracle Network
  • Friends for Sardis Nursing Home

We need adult and teen volunteers to help with fund-raising projects related to each chapter, including the Southern Spring Show, PinStripes, Golfing for Gehrig, the Gift Shop at Carolinas Medical Center and HomeArama.

Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy
The Volunteer Services Department at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy in Charlotte, N.C., needs adult and teen volunteers for weekday, evening and weekend placements.

Opportunities include:

  • Serve customers, sell merchandise, check prices and price new merchandise in the Gift Shop
  • Deliver mail and flowers to patients
  • Escort and transport patients
  • Staff waiting rooms
  • Provide assistance in nursing units, the Emergency Department, Behavioral Health Center Mercy Horizons, the recovery room and the rehabilitation unit
  • Assist with clerical duties
  • Make pastoral care visit to patients
  • File laboratory slides
  • Edit newsletter
  • Create Gift Shop displays

Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville
The Volunteer Services Department at Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville in Pineville, N.C., has a variety of adult and teen volunteer opportunities available, including:

  • Lead area school kindergarten children on Children's Hospital tours
  • Greet patients, family members and visitors and provide directions to appropriate locations
  • Help the Dietary staff prepare patient trays
  • Provide courteous service to the public, staff and patients at the hospital front desk
  • Escort visitors, provide directions, deliver patient flowers and meal trays, visit with patients, restock supplies, file x-rays, fill water pitchers, help with clerical duties, run errands, relay information and answer phones in various departments including the Emergency Department, The Maternity Center, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Radiology and nursing units
  • Serve customers, sell merchandise, check prices and price new merchandise in the Gift Shop
  • Receive, sort and distribute mail
  • File, enter data and complete special departmental projects in Medical Records

Carolinas Medical Center-Union
At Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe, N.C., the following opportunities are available to dedicated and capable adults and teens:

  • Deliver patient mail, flowers and newspapers
  • Escort patients via wheelchairs and stretchers
  • Complete basic clerical tasks
  • Provide patient support for unskilled tasks

Volunteer orientation sessions are held three times a month.

Carolinas Medical Center-University
Flexible scheduling and a choice of volunteer assignments ranging from clerical work to support in nursing care are available at Carolinas Medical Center-University in Charlotte, N.C. Adult volunteer opportunities include:

  • Restock supplies
  • Deliver and pick up food trays
  • Fill water pitchers
  • Provide directions and information in waiting rooms
  • Complete basic clerical tasks
  • Escort patients

A six-week volunteer program is available for teens (ages 14 to 17) each summer.

Adult volunteer opportunities - ranging from clerical to patient care - are always available at Valdese Hospital in Valdese, N.C., including:

  • Provide information and directions for patient families in various areas of the hospital
