The Purpose
THE PURPOSE

Carolinas HealthCare System has established The Diversity Advisory Committee (DAC) for the following purposes:

To conduct an ongoing review of the recruitment, retention and the status of minority physicians among medical staff employed by or affiliated with Carolinas HealthCare and to enhance recruitment efforts and retention.

To pool information resources and provide resumes, contacts and other information to those recruiting physicians and professional medical staff with the objective of increasing qualified minority applicants and candidates.

To examine business practices by payers, providers and groups to encourage greater involvement of minority physicians.

What is our scope:

The Diversity Advisory Committee will limit the scope of its review and recommendation to physician and medical staff issues.

The Diversity Advisory Committee will agree to establish subgroups at the appropriate time to review similar issues and concerns among other Carolinas HealthCare System staff.

The scope of the Diversity Advisory Committee's initial efforts will be limited to addressing minority issues in the order each minority group represents in the make-up of the community Carolinas HealthCare System serves. The DAC will address the issues and concerns of African American physicians first in its initial review.

 Priority 2000
Diversity should not divide us but strengthen us. We will take on the challenge of assuring a sense of community that breaks down barriers, builds bridges, and celebrates the worth and dignity of all people.

-From the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina County Manager's Budget In Brief Fiscal Year 1999-2000

Carolinas HealthCare System is an institutional member of the Institute for Diversity in Health Management.
