Women and Children's Center
The Women and Children's Center offers specialized health services to meet the physical and emotional needs of women and children. The renovated maternity suites, pediatric unit, newborn nursery, and postpartum and gynecology units were expanded for greater patient comfort. The Women and Children's Center also offers extensive educational programs. The Lactation Center, staffed by a certified lactation consultant, provides inpatient and follow-up care for breastfeeding mothers. An in-house, state-of-the-art outoacoustical testing service allows physicians to assess the hearing capabilities of newborns.

Carolinas HealthCare System's Web Baby Nursery provides family and friends a way to see their
new loved ones born at CMC-Union.

Cardiovascular Center
The Cardiovascular Center at CMC-Union provides patients with heart disease the convenience of care close to home.
The center offers a full range of cardiac diagnostic services, including outpatient heart
catheterizations. Computerized catheterization techniques allow cardiologists to view the heart and
blood vessels from many angles.
Behavioral Health Center
The Behavioral Health Center, known as First Step, provides treatment for chemical
dependency problems. Patients and families attend group and individual counseling
sessions. It is the only full-service treatment facility within the tri-county area.
The Center offers medically supervised detoxification, inpatient services and an
outpatient residential program. The center is accredited by JCAHO and is licensed by
the State of North Carolina.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program provides a comprehensive approach to the
rehabilitation of patients dealing with heart disease. The goal of this program
is to help return patients to a level of activity appropriate for a healthy lifestyle
and to reduce cardiovascular risk factors. The staff includes an exercise physiologist,
a registered nurse, a registered dietitian, a clinical psychologist and a medical director.
The program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary

Home Care
Through CMC-Union's Home Care Services, patients receive quality care in the comfort of their own homes.
Skilled nurses, home health aides and professional therapists help patients recover from surgery or
recuperating from illness quickly and safely while in familiar surroundings. For more information, call 704-283-3381.
Emergency Department
Specially trained Emergency Department physicians and nurses provide modern urgent and
emergency care 24 hours a day. More than 3,000 patients a month are treated for either
minor and major emergencies. This department is equipped with trauma rooms and treatment
rooms used exclusively for cardiac, obstetric, pediatric, ophthalmic and orthopaedic
emergencies. Many Emergency Department physicians and nurses are certified in advanced
cardiac life support, trauma nursing, emergency nurse pediatrics and pediatric advanced
life support. Trauma care at Union Regional is supported by Med Center Air, Union EMS
Transport and other resources of Carolinas HealthCare System.
The Sleep Center
Carolinas Sleep Center at CMC-Union has the technology and expertise to diagnose and treat a
variety of adult and pediatric sleep disorders. Disorders treated include sleep apnea,
insomnia, dependence on sleeping pills, sleep walking, night terrors, nightmares and
more.

Accredited by JCAHO, Smith Nursing Center is dedicated to providing high quality,
rehabilitative, skilled and intermediate services to the elderly. We enhance the quality
of life for our residents through a wide variety of social programs, special activities
and outings. We also promote a home environment by encouraging family and

Rehabilitative Services
A variety of rehabilitation services is provided by licensed physical, speech and occupational therapists. After a thorough assessment,
CMC-Union therapists customize a treatment plan for each patient. Physical therapy includes orthopaedic, neurological and wound care. It helps
patients with deficits in strength, flexibility, mobility and balance to return to their daily activities. Speech therapy helps patients regain a variety of functions including comprehension (listening and reading), expression (speaking and writing), and swallowing and cognition. Occupational therapy assists patients in regaining their ability to perform daily activities. Surgical Center
The Surgical Center offers an impressive level of experience and technological expertise. More than 25 surgeons, specializing in general, urological, orthopaedic, vascular, gynecologic, ear-nose-throat, plastic, dental and ophthalmic (eye) surgeries, rely on CMC-Union's six state-of-the-art surgical suites.
The Day Surgery Center
Located within CMC-Union, the Day Surgery Center has a 12-bed unit for patients who are being
prepared of the operating room, endoscopy procedure rooms, a Catheterization lab, a Pain
Clinic and a Phase II recovery unit. Procedures performed at the center include cataract
removal, hernia repair, endoscopy, biopsies, and minor ear-nose-throat surgeries. The Day
Surgery Center serves approximately 700 patients per month.

Diabetes Center
The Diabetes Center addresses the area's growing need for diabetes education through
individual and group sessions. Adult and pediatric patients learn how to control
symptoms, prevent long-term complications and manage other conditions associated
