INJURY PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Carolinas Center for Injury Prevention and Control is a leader in the region for injury data and prevention strategies. Established in 1999, the Center's mission is to prevent injury, disability and death and the costs associated with injury in the southern piedmont area. Our staff works towards this goal through a multi-pronged approach of research, program development and evaluation, public and professional education and policy implementation. In addition to the Center's projects, our staff works collaboratively to reduce the burden of injury in our region chairing the Metrolina Regional Trauma's Injury Prevention committee and coordinating the Mecklenburg Safe Communities coalition, a network of agencies and community members working together to reduce injury in Mecklenburg County.

 OTHER TIPS
Winter Safety:

Winter sledding should be done away from roads and cars and not done at high surfaces or near trees where an impact can cause head injuries.

Do not allow cars to run idle in closed areas and do not use alternative heating devices to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. ( A Carbon Monoxide detector and smoke detector should something happen, will alert you, and both should be present and working in your house.)
