CENTERS
The Carolinas Heart Institute
The Carolinas Heart Institute is one of the largest heart transplant
programs in the Carolinas. The medical professionals who represent The Carolinas Heart Institute
are peerless in their fields. Under the direction of medical
director Francis Robicsek, MD, PhD., this institute treats
heart disease, cardiac emergencies and cardiac surgical needs.
Each year, they successfully perform more than 12,000 catheterization
procedures, over 1,000 open-heart surgeries, 2,500 interventions on
lung and peripheral vessels. Additionally, the institute performs
cardiothoracic and pulmonary surgery, peripheral vascular surgery,
pacemaker implantation, ablation therapy, and extracorporeal
membrane oxygenation therapy.
Carolinas Heart Institute now offers the latest advancement
in minimally invasive surgery – robotic-assisted surgery using the daVinci Robot. Robotic-assisted
surgery complements the ongoing minimally invasive cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery program
at Carolinas Heart Institute. The daVinci Robot is a new surgical tool that significantly reduces
the size of incisions to perform heart surgery meaning shorter, less painful post-operative
recovery time for our patients.
The Carolinas Heart Institute offers skilled cardiac nursing and
cardiac rehabilitation. Diagnostics include cardiac MRI imaging, color
doppler echocardiography, diagnostic catheterization, electrophysiology
studies, pulmonary angiography, nuclear stress testing, position
emission tomography (PET) imaging, and holter monitoring. Read more about Heart Services...
