ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Prehospital Education Programs
Paramedic Education at Carolinas College of Health Sciences is offered through the following course options:

ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE
This program is designed to prepare graduates to enter the workforce as paramedics. The course of study teaches basic and advanced life support knowledge and skills utilizing classroom instruction, practical laboratory sessions, clinical experience and field internships.

EMS BRIDGE PROGRAM
This program is designed to allow current certified paramedics the option to earn an associates degree. Students in this program will complete both general education requirements and advanced EMS courses.

COMMUNITY PROGRAM
The primary focus of this program is to offer credentialed EMTs an opportunity to progress in their education and career with minimal disruption of work and family commitments. This Paramedic program follows the guidelines established by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services for initial education of EMS professionals. The curriculum utilized is the 1998 United States Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration EMT-Paramedic Course: National Standard Curriculum. The program consists of 604 didactic hours, 200 hours of clinical conducted at Carolinas Medical Center and 300 hours of field internship.

Medic ACADEMY PROGRAM
This program is a closed course with enrollment limited to students sponsored by MEDIC, the Mecklenburg EMS Agency. The course of study leads to a diploma fulfilling the requirements for testing as an EMT-P. For more information on the Medic program, please call 704-355-1721.
