Program Overview
The Vascular Surgery Residency Program at Carolinas Medical Center is organized within the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, yet maintained as a separate program. The vascular residency program is an approved 2-year residency program fully accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), with the next site review scheduled in 2008.
The educational goals of the program are to develop a well-rounded vascular surgeon with in-depth knowledge of peripheral vascular surgery meeting all educational objectives for Board Certification and meeting all requirements of the ACGME. Our emphasis on education differentiates Carolinas Medical Center form other similar-sized, non-university hospitals. We have a dedicated full-time surgical faculty fully committed to resident education. Their contact is continuous and involves various areas of theoretical and practical teaching. We also provide clinical support services from the Carolinas Heart & Vascular Institute (CHVI), Sanger Clinic, and James H. Heineman Vascular Center.
